New Year's Resolutions!

I have one major one that I intend to keep:

DRAW EVERY FREAKING DAY.

I suffered so much through last year's art block that I'm determined not to let it get the better of me this year. I did the Draw Every Day thing in 2009, and it was really cool to look back every few months and see actual progress being made. I don't pressure myself to make a finished work every day, or even anything presentable - it just has to be at least a doodle, or some coloring. I actually have a tumblr for it: http://bbdrawseveryday.tumblr.com/ This is where I'll post my sketches and WIPs and doodles that deserve to see the light of day. 5 days in now, and I'm going strong. 5 days, and I think that's more days than I drew in the last three or four months of 2014. GONNA DO IT. I even bought new pencils and a new clipboard and everything.

My secondary resolution is to keep up a little better with my flist. There are so many cool and talented people that I watch, and I always skim through and think, "I'll comment on this later," and I never get around to it. This needs to change. I want to be more involved with fandom and the awesome people in it, and the only way to do that is to get out there and talk to them.

What are your NY resolutions, flist? Anybody want to join me in drawing every day? We can create a comm and everything, for doodles and sketches and WIPs and encouragement, if enough people are interested.

I'm definitely, 200% in!!! I should draw more. Lack of time is more of an excuse because if you're determined you can get something out in 30 minutes, which I do have everyday. Struggling together is definitely better than struggling alone :)

Yes, let's struggle together! I'll probably make the comm, because I like making new comms lol, and because I want a place on LJ to put stuff. I don't like just posting on tumblr, I'm still not entirely comfortable with tumblr.

It'd be great if you set up that comm :) I talked about setting up a comm like that months ago and seriously considered doing it (even decided the name and other details with Amber), but unfortunately had to shelve the idea because of school. It'd be a good start in the new year if you brought that comm into life :))) thank you, bb <3

I spent much of last year trying new things and discovering that most of them are in my reach, but require a lot of practice to get good at detail work. In this case: programming floppy drives to play music. The circuitry involved is really finicky, so I'm going to scale back and start with easier electronic Arduino projects with servos (ex. building a toy remote control car) in order to wrap my head around the hardware.

I have a friend who mods and builds all kinds of music toys out of old electronics, and I think it's really cool. Good luck with your electronic endeavors!

I'm already looking at this challenge and thinking, I'll never be able to keep it up - but then I've managed most days for the 12mowrimo writing challenge, so really how is this any different? And boy, do I need the practice! So if you do set up an LJ comm, count me in!

It's not hard to keep up, as long as you remember to do it every day :) I just make sure I draw for five minutes. I can always find five minutes in a day to do a quick sketch of something. I think I will set up the comm - I love making new comms, lol, and I think it would be good to have a place for us to congregate. Also, I'd prefer to have a separate place to post my doodles so I don't flood my journal with stuff I wouldn't otherwise post, you know?

I'll count you in! I'll post once I've set up the community :) Yay!

I picked up a pencil the other day just to play around. I'm in no way proficient or talented, but I thought it would be fun to play with, Sometimes I see stuff in my head that I wish I could express.

Love to see you creating again, bb!!! Tried to catch a livestream but it hasn't happened yet.

Keep going with the pencil! Practice can make a big difference, and before long, you'll be drawing with the best of them :)

I hope you can catch one soon! I've been drawing offline the last two days, but I like LSing, and I hope to do a lot more.

I Love the idea! However I'm a complete no talented novice - seriously just a hair above stick figures. I'd be interested in the rules and how the comm is set up. I'm afraid if we had to share everything I'd freak & bail- cause did I mention novice?

Even if we didn't have to show everything I am intimidated with a capital I by your talent & everyone that have responded already /o\

Still I do love to sketch and find it relaxing when I do take the time. I can’t tell you the number of times in the last few years when fandom inspired my muse enough to sketch, so there is that. Also, I noticed whenever I do spend time and get into a zone (that lasts longer than a few weeks) I've actually improved from the time I started. Plus I’m willing to learn… so I think I just talked myself into it o.o guess that’s a yes if beginners are welcomed =)

Oh, there wouldn't really be any rules other than things like, use LJ cuts and warnings, and be nice. And there would be no pressure to post everything you draw, either, just the stuff that you want to post :) if I had to share everything, i'd freak out, too, lol.

Oh man, don't be intimidated! Everybody started out drawing stick figures, you know? And if you're determined to keep drawing and get better, you'll get better :)

Beginners are totally welcome. Everybody is welcome. I'll be setting up the comm within a few days, and I hope you join! \o/

Thank you :) I'm going to try really hard not to get frustrated. last time I did it I was pretty chill about it... even if I only drew a few stick figures it counted, since I was staying int he habit of drawing, so I never really put a lot of pressure on myself.

I know what you mean, but I'm only setting my goal at 5 minutes a day. If I do more than that, great! I just want to get something down on paper/on screen each day, to stay in practice :)
