Bleh weather, and other things

So, the weather outside is frightful, lol. I'm sure a lot of you are experiencing this ice storm thing, and I hope everyone's safe! I'm surprised we haven't lost power or internet, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed through this next bit of ice coming in tomorrow.

I'm already going stir-crazy, though. I'm used to taking a few walks a day, at least, trying to do 5 or more miles a day. But now I'm just stuck inside, with my plenty of food and water and electricity and internet, poor me, haha. I probably won't be able to get out until Tuesday or Wednesday.

Art block! is kind of killing me. If I could art, I wouldn't be so frustrated. Or maybe it's the other way around; it often is. I was going to livestream tonight, but earlier today I had my tablet out and I just kind of drew blobs on it, then pushed it away in disgust. So I'd prefer to not do that in front of an audience, lol.

I have been podficcing, though :) I ordered a new mic from Amazon, and it was really shitty, but i was so ready to record things that I got out my old mic and found an excellent story to work on. I already recorded it once, but I rushed it and it was painfully obvious (my mushmouth can be hilarious, but not so much if you can't even understand the words that are coming out of my mouth.) So I'm recording it again, and I have the first part done, and I'm MUCH happier with it now. I'm sure the first read-through didn't hurt, what with getting me familiar with the fic. I'll probably record the second part tomorrow. My first longfic!

I can't wait to get my art mojo back though, because I have a commission I need to finish and some RBB art to work on soon, plus I just love to DRAAAAAW and it makes me happy.

So how are you guys doing? Tell me things. tell me your favorite podfics, tell me what you're doing to not be bored in all this terrible weather, link me to a short fic to try to record, tell me your favorite current fics! I know spn_j2_bb had a lot of great ones, and I was too busy moving to really pay attention to much.

Hi!!

There's also been many yummy Wincest Big Bang and Sam & Dean Mini Bang fics! I had to stash them in a bookmark folder. If you like to read my WBB (Sam & Dean) it's Bitter Harvest, or otherwise knows as how much angst can F10 cram into a Wincest fic!

I'm busy writing and betaing. I need to listen to your podfics! I do some work on audio dramas, so I have definitely thought about applying that here.

Hi!

Oh man, when I was packing and stuff I'd skim my flist and see so many tempting fics, but I never thought to put them on my Kindle for when i had more leisure time. I have trouble reading fic at my computer; I get too distracted by other tabs, and idk why but I have a hard time sitting still long enough to really get into one. If it's on my Kindle, that's another story. So I'll be running over to your fic to send it to my Kindle right away :)

I wish I could write. I'm kind of blocked there too; writing's like my third-priority fandom pursuit, so it's rare that I finish anything. But I got about 1k words into a fic last week, then it kind of fizzled out because my characterization was all over the place, and i knew it.

RBB is so exciting! I've already got one draft back and it's lovely, and I've got a portion of the other fic that just has me salivating for more. My id, it is so happy with these fics :D

I love podficcing, when I'm in the mood. I started doing it because I don't have a speech impediment? But since I was young, I've "talked funny." No matter where I live, people assume I'm from elsewhere, and I have trouble with pronouncing my vowels consistently. idk, lol. But I started doing it to gain confidence, and because I love listening to them, and now when I'm in the mood, recording fic almost puts me in a trance. It's really cool. And audio dramas! What fun! What kind do you work on?

Right now I'm watching some stuff and just relaxing. I'm not going to try to draw for a few days, I think, because the more I push, it seems, the harder it is to get past a block. If I feel like it, I'll do it. Otherwise, I wait for it to come back and if it doesn't, I try doing a little doodle or something every day for a while until one of them takes off into an actual picture. Usually works for me. It just sucks when I'm right in the middle of one.

Sorry about your weather, I saw 9 inches of snow and more ice on the way for your neck of the woods. We got ice and sleet with scant snow.. but it is cold here 17 degrees tonight.

I've been busy writing my Xmas fic requests and 3 xmas gifts that weren't requested but gifts from my heart. Designed my xmas fandom cards for my friends and sent them out. Haven't been reading any fic been too busy.

Also finished my RBB early.. so that was a big plus for me..

I sadly have no fics or podfic to rec. Sorry sweetie, been busy with my own works and there hasn't been a lot of good works out there lately, am hoping that RBB fics will be awesome so I have lots to read the first of the year.

Yeah, we've got a real butthole of a winter storm, lol. It's been getting down to around 0 degrees F at night.

I've been busy being moody and withdrawn, Part of my "artistic temperament," i always say. I appreciatre hte beef jerky especially! Tough and salty, like my heart.

Also still unpacking! It's a process.

I'm so glad you finished your RBB early :) That's gotta be a load off, and it gives your artist plenty of time to finish theirs.

lol, my texts are full, and I have to figure out which ones to delete. I can't delete individual text; I have to delete whole conversations. My phone is dumb.

Lucky lucky! But then again, it's hot summer for you, isn't it? I don't envy you that; summer is my least favorite time of the year. I'd take the cold any day, if only I could get out and do stuff.

I don't listen to much podfic, but I really should because there are some excellent ones out there. A couple of my favs are:
* A really fun podfic of Seagull of My Youth by sevenfists. read by fantamae. I listened to it recently while I was stuck in traffic (which is arguably worse than being stuck in your apartment?) and that made me grin like an idiot.
* And this excellent reading of another excellent fic, Everything With Wings is Restless by oddishly, read by lavishsqualor

We just had a pretty strong storm in Germany which of course just started when I happened to spend the night on the highway (at least I wasn't driving), with bonus snow and all, so that was scary, lol. Right now it's okay again so I can still cycle which is my exercise of choice. Man, I need a plan for when we get the first snow and I can't do that anymore.
I would really love to podfic more right now but it seems difficult to find the necessary quiet (I just can't when I think someone might hear me lol) and I have a lot of art on my to-do list :C podficcing is a painfully slow process for me so I need these big chunks of time for it to be enjoyable and to ~get in the zone where it becomes productive. :/

Oh man, having to make a trip during a storm like that must have been nerve-wracking! I need a plan for when I'm stuck inside, too; I know there's got to be some indoor exercises I can do that would make me feel better, but it's just not the same as getting out there and going.

When I lived in an apartment, I felt really self-conscious about recording, so I'd do it at about 4 in the morning, haha. We're in a house now, and it's still easier to do it in the morning, when my bf is asleep, though he has no problem with the kind of fannish stuff I do. it's just, lol, I'd feel so embarrassed if he walked by the office when I was reading a sex scene!

I...haven't read any of the 2013 big bangs, I don't think. I was still catching up with 2012 at the time, and still haven't got around to it. /o/ And probably most of the fics I have been consuming of late were written in 2007.

Yep, big ol' storm XD I'm actually kind of surprised (and super-grateful!) that i still have power and internet.

Podficcing! \o/ I'm recording my first long podfic (I think it'll come in at about 3 hours?) and trying not to get too anal about editing, because editing takes SOOO LONG. I have a few podfics i never finished just because the editing part is a pain, lol. But I am determined to finish this one, because it was a lot of fun to read in the first read-through, I just have to do it better this time :D Lots of stream-of-consciousness and conversations, some of my favorite stuff. I wandered over to podfic_tips and read through a few posts and learned some stuff (Auphonic! how cool!)

Oh man, Auphonic really is cool. I've used it for my last couple of podfics, and I'm addicted. My mic started doing this weird hum thing (probably a problem with the actual USS port, sigh), but Auphonic fixes it like it isn't it even there! :D Success!

I just finished my first Reverse Big Bang fic ever and sent it off to the mods. I'm very pleased with myself :D. Now I just have to work with my beta and polish it. I always tried to do them before but never got them done, so this is huge for me :)
I've also started to write some poetry again. I used to in high school, but stopped for a long time. Now I'm picking it back up, and man, it's hard. It's like learning to walk or something-I know how to write fics, but poetry? It's kind of complicated, lol. I'm hoping that some of my Nana's poetry genes will inspire me though.
Hope the ice storm misses you! Or at the very least, leaves your power intact!

Boooo is right! We hates it.

Nobody I know got hurt, but there were lots of car accidents on the roads on the first day people started leaving their houses. No casualties, I think, just some messed up cars, oops. The roads were pretty bad, but finally they cleared up yesterday :)

We've had 4 days of thick fog. Just when I decided I should be responsible for my body and go buy a mask, it finally dispersed!
I don't think holing in your room is that bad when the weather out there is crazy :) I hate having to go out when the weather's bad.
I've been experiencing what you're dealing with now for YEARS. That frustration, I understand. This month I have the excuse not to force myself to draw. I don't know how I'm gonna survive December with all those papers waiting to be done... I'll labor till January.

I'm in the same boat. I used to walk the dog about 2 miles twice a day, and run 3 miles on my treadmill. Now I am mostly just sitting on my fanny in front of the internet.

Trying to patch up the holes in the RBB draft I turned in, I NEEEED to get it in better shape to send to a beta.

Best short fic I've read in a long time- Hands and Knees (I'm Crawling) by poisontaster. Insanely hot.
