fandom fests!

I love fandom fests. Kink memes, comment memes, bangs, exchanges. Right now I'm signed up for two, and I'm so conflicted on whether to do more! I've got commissions to work on, which take priority and which I can usually keep going strong on while doing other stuff, and I did decide to do art for the samdean-otp minibang (got a great, sweet author!) and I'm trying to figure out if I want to do a second piece for spn-reversebang (already have one piece turned in) and now I'm trying so hard to decide if i want to sign up for Cake Swap! *bites nails*

infosign-ups

I love podficcing, and I love getting gifts in return, but it seems like it would be so hard to find fics to podfic that would suit people's likes and dislikes. I also can't think of any fics off the top of my head that I'd like to have podficced for me, other than my own because I love it when people record my fics. But I don't know if it would be proper etiquette to ask for that, lol.

I JUST DON'T KNOW. BWAAAAARGH.

(I am excited about the ones I'm participating in though :D) What are you guys signed up for/working on right now? And has anyone ever done Cake Swap, and if so, how was the experience?

Cake swap got my hopes up, alas only to be dashed as there is no actual cake.... LOL
yes yes do another RBB art - there's still plenty of time and you could do something totally different (like your one last year, that was so cool....)
I've just found a website that makes it really easy to make gifs - I'm having so much fun! Yay!

I just saw your comment on the comm and I will reply to that in a ~modly fashion in a second, but first!

YOU SHOULD DEFINITELY SIGN UP. (I’m obviously 100% biased, but still!)

It’s honestly not as hard as it might seem to find fics to record for people. Before I ever participated in a podfic gift exchange, I was worried about, too.

Admittedly, I definitely prefer it when people list favorite authors and fics. In the sign up form, I really tried to emphasize to people how helpful this can be, and I hope a lot of people do it. I’ve done podfic gift exchanges where my recipients both have and haven’t listed anything specific, and it’s much easier for me when they do. I don’t have to record anything from their list, but it usually gives me a solid starting point when looking for possible fics to choose.

I look at stories I already like and have contemplated podficcing, and see what fits in with my recipient’s general likes/dislikes. I do this even when the recipient lists favorite stories/authors! If they haven’t listed any favorites, you can take a look at what they’ve podficced (or written) before to see what themes/authors/stories they gravitate toward. You can browse various themed rec communities if you’re having a hard time thinking of fics on your own. You can even ask a friend to look at your recipient’s sign up and suggest appropriate fics. (I volunteer!! ♥)

But ultimately, don’t put too much pressure on yourself to record a podfic that’s a ~*perfect*~ match for someone. It’s just a fun gift exchange! It doesn’t have to be perfect. For me, it’s enough to know that someone put thought and effort into my gift, and I’ll be happy with whatever I end up getting. And I hope my recipient would feel the same way.

Are there really no fics you’d like to see podficced? Really? It can hard to think of them off the top of your head, but just look back at stories you’ve really enjoyed (AHEM, I can think of one epic one you posted about just recently!) or authors you consistently enjoy, and list them. There’s still so much time left to sign up, and there’s plenty of time to go back and think about fics you’ve liked. Listing favorite authors is an especially good tool if you’re having trouble thinking of specific fics, etc.: I'll tell you right now that your recipient will definitely be browsing through the authors' masterlists! ;) And don’t forget about listing themes and preferences in general; your recipient can be on the lookout for stuff that fits the bill.

Also, it’s definitely fine to say you love it when your own writing gets podficced. And go ahead and list some of your own fics that you particularly love! (Or I mean, I guess it’s fine as long as it’s not the ~only~ thing you say you’d ~ever~ want to get, if you know what I mean. I don’t think that’ll be a problem, though. XD) Somewhat related, I always love it when fics I’ve recorded before get recorded again by someone else, and I’m definitely going to say that in my own sign up.

I HOPE THIS HELPS AND ENCOURAGES YOU TO SIGN UP. <3333333 Do you have any other hesitations??? LET ME ATTEMPT TO BANISH THEM AND GET YOU TO SIGN UP. <3333

Ask yourself this.... does the word overwhelmed mean anything.. I used to sign up for everything and then I got totally overwhelmed by it and started to hate challenges. I now do 3 a year and not ones that overlap.

but cause I LOVE you art and you btb.... I'd love anything you decided to come up with. <3

Heeh, I love challenges and exchanges! I'm currently not signed up for anything, writing-wise, which is rare, lol. Looking for stuff to sign up for, but haven't found anything that fits. XD

I'm doing the RBB too though, IF I can come up with a good enough prompt.

I had similar thoughts about the cakeswap. I really like doing podfics, but it would be hard to come up with suggestions, because I read so much and things I love slip from my mind to be replaced by the next thing I ravenously devour. But it sounds so fun. And I love your podfics. Argh!
